HOLY FUCKING SHIT ADELE IM LIKE CRYING. Like oh my god I looked forward for so long to this reunion and you went above my expectations and then PH MY GPS LIKE I CANNOT GET OVER THIS CRUSHING WEIGHT I FEEL. The two star crossed lovers meeting again but their reunion is nothing like the myths or the legends. Just oh my god okay I don’t even know where to begin I was literally yelling the entire time I was reading this new chapter! (1/4)

The parable of the cave. CHOSO god I love him so much 🥰🥰 but okay the whole dream Sequence- geto being the moon and sukuna being the sun- god your mind!!!! At first I know for a fact 💯 that toji is suppose to be the 4th son coming to bring it all down. Or at least I thought so until we get to part 8. And god the way you write angst literally leaves me with a pit in my chest and the urge to yell at both of these characters. (2/4)

God this chapter left me spiraling. I love the way you portray the readers / tojis relationship. It feels as if it was doomed for the start- with toji thinking too big for the dreams he had had reader not thinking big enough. In a way there’s a balance but right now toji is not himself and cannot be the balance that the reader needs. Again you blew me away I can’t believe the odyssey is almost over 😔 Like this chapter left me speechless I feel as though my brain is scrambling to make sense of all the things toji has been though, the unresolved anguish the reader feels about him and the impending doom that is this new captain! I’m most definitely gonna do a little rereading to look over what I missed cause I could not put my phone down. -🥸

[SOBBING AND CRYING] THANK U 😭 i am not exaggerating when i say i am always looking forward to ur hot takes whenever i update and u never disappoint 😭 i was looking forward to writing this reunion from the moment mahito was like Hey in part 2 and GODDDDD i wish i cld keep writing it there was so much stuff i wanted to add that didn’t make it in (read: toji and mc go ‘hunting for boars’ one night, mc and toji staring longingly at each other as they walk on the beach, mc and toji at the old woman’s stall, etc. etc. etc) but i am obsessed with the vibes of their tragic past and their sort of doomed romance and whatever so what can u do (unsolicited odyssey music: the song i played 500 times (no joke) to manifest the flashbacks) 

(also CHOSO....i mf love interlude 3 but let me tell u it took me like 10 years to write it because i wrote it, hated it, went on hiatus, and then rewrote completely differently later KSGJSG....but the line in part 8 when u go onto the ship that was like ‘even sound doesn’t echo off the walls’ or whatever was a line from my shitty version of interlude 3 RIP)

as for ur delightful guesswork i cannot confirm or deny anything in the spirit of leaving u all on ur toes but i really like the big brain activity going on here !!!!! we will eventually find out the answers to most of those things tho so sit tight 😌 (i decided not to publish that ask because some of it is pretty darn close so don’t tell SKGJSGS but also i feel that some of it is quite obvious RIP) 

and god i know....i am genuinely distraught that there r only 2 big parts left...granted they will both be long as fuck but STILL i have no idea what I'm going to do with myself when it’s all done 😭 this and this r the themes for part 9 tho and let me tell u it will genuinely crush my soul to have to write down what is going to be written every day i ask my brain why we r about to do what i have planned <//3

I have sooo many things I wanna say but first I gotta say I loved this chapter so much. Reading this chapter really made me feel sorta lonely and I sensed a real conflict within y/n themselves. (I would like to preference that this ask will not sound coherent)But I feel like I am getting ahead of myself I really wanna start off with the title and the opening scene!!! Okay so when I saw the title I was like 🤨🤨 because I didn’t know beforehand that albatross meant bird. When I looked it up, another meaning I found was that if you called someone an albatross “they cause you great problems from which you cannot escape” now going along with this- I feel like the fog in the first scene was a symbolism for how y/n feels sorta tied down. What I mean is that she’s in conflict with herself. Yes she’s has been at sea for quite some time and well experienced with everything, but I feel like they still haven’t REALLY paid attention to their surroundings or the meaning of why they are out there. The fog I believe represents their self-conflict on themselves and the meaning of them being out there. Also!!! Going back to the albatross alternative meaning, I feel like the thing that is causing great problems is themselves!! Nanami mentioned how they’re gonna fail if they keep looking for something I guess bigger than themselves. I feel like in the beginning, that thing was the existence of Sukuna and now that they have found Sukuna, they are sorta in this weird period of “now what?” With her new mission to find megumi, I feel like y/n will keep looking for bigger and bigger missions until she is satisfied. I feel like a big thing with them is that they lowkey don’t have that self-confidence they need. And I feel like this was hinted at when the Sailor called them captain!! They were like “what me?” Like YES YOU. YOURE A BADASSS. I feel like one key aspects of the odyssey will be y/n gaining self confidence and assured that they belong there out of the sea (1/6 I PROMISED THEYRE ALL NOT THIS LONG I JUST HAD TO SEPARATE MY THOUGHTS)

ANOTHER THING: I believe the two figures at the end of the fog in the first sequence was sukuna and toji. They’re finally getting to a stage where sukuna is no longer this mythos but a real being who they have feelings for (THEY FINALLY HOOKED UP I YELLED SO LOUDLY OMG). But it’s obvious that Toji is still presence without him actually being in the main story. Another way I interpreted the title was that Toji was the readers albatross. Despite him not being there, his presence still haunts them. There’s always gonna be a lingering thought in the readers head about Toji and the meaning of him in their life. (2/6)

INUMAKI MY BABY. I yelled so loudly when he was introduced. Now it makes more sense that interlude- it was actually Toji telling her all these stories and 2 of them turned out to be true!!! I feel like Toji might have either interacted with gojo or inumaki in the past before meeting y/n or knew someone who did. The whole scene with inumaki was so intimate- he might have not been able to speak but I felt like him and y/n really connected with their loneliness of being out in the sea. I do feel like inumaki letting them go was something new for him. Maybe he believed that they’ll find a way to break his curse. I feel (and hope) this won’t be the last time we see him!!! (3/6)

Speaking of curses- I feel like if y/n isn’t careful enough she too will be cursed. So far, the curse people we have seen are gojo and inumaki right. And for gojo- he got cursed out of love and for inumaki we don’t really know how he got cursed but I feel like it also has to do with something about love. Whether or not y/n wants to admit it she loved Toji and right now dare I say she is falling in love with sukuna. I wouldn’t be surprised if she some how ends up being cursed because of this love. I really hope this is not the case and I’m going in the wrong direction but the whole love is the greatest curse of them all feels like one of those background elements that are in the story but won’t come out fully until it is the main characters time to deal with it (4/5- I lied it was actually 5 paragraphs I wrote lol)

This was super long and I am so sorry I just really love this series so much. I had a rough week and reading the new chapter brought me so much joy. Having nanami, uthamie, and mei mei introduced was so exciting I can’t wait to see what’s coming in the new chapters. and LORD!!! writing the inumaki scene hit so different....i was going through a lot when i was writing that section back in september and it was such an experience working thru it with inumaki and reader and the unbearable weight they’re both carrying...the inumaki scene and the heist scene were the two most difficult to put together and now that it’s done it’s certainly one of my favorite scenes i've written for the series :’)

and finally (because i had to Redact one of ur paragraphs because u know my brain too good) ur take on curses is Chef’s Kiss!!! love + belonging + crafting a self-identity r definitely some big themes taking shape and cld definitely play a role in the Existence of Curses but i cannot confirm or deny because i am evil and will not share

questions first, analysis second!

what are your favourite books? those who made you pause for a sec, close the book and screamed bc how dare you write something this poetic/heartwrenching and proceed to act like normal???

alright, let’s dive into this, let’s gooo!

hades, psyche:

I’ll deal with hades first. hades, god of the dead, also happens to be the elder brother of poseidon. at first I was about to say that mahito could refer to him, with his relation with the soul and all. but. one tiny little thing occurred to me. mahito has, at some point to fight against sukuna. and here comes this one sentence. “mahito is a prince, but sukuna is the king.” sukuna’s eyes have been said in neptune’s hands, to pierce the one-eyed pirate’s soul if my memory is correct. you have a mere glance on sukuna’s part versus physical contact on mahito’s part — sukuna is more powerful than mahito. but that’s not all. hades also refers to mahito, the god of the dead aspect more precisely: he is the curse born from the dead sailors wishing revenge. so we have sukuna with yet another comparison with a god and mahito with a strong link to the dead.

as for psyche, there is also a myth on her (at least it’s a happy end. fuck you Aphrodite. and with this I shall remain single for the rest of my life. anyway—) but I don’t think it’s that relevant. I think psyche is to be understood as the mind, the soul. especially considering mahito is involved, and what’s with the theme of the soul seen throughout the whole chapter. and yes, I think this is the best chapter of the odyssey. probably because I was reading it outside in the middle of February with mist all around and it really set the mood, but still! back to the souls. the whole atmosphere you painted throughout the chapter really made me think of hell, the Greek one. perhaps with the eery cold and silence, particularly fitting for the undead aspect of it. another thing I’ve noticed, and this one is with the myth of psyche (and this is the most disorganized analysis ever bc it’s once again 1 am). at first, psyche is pretty passive in my opinion, submitted to the whims of gods (Aphrodite, eros, etc), which is the same for reader. again, she is on this ship solely because sukuna deemed her interesting enough to let her live, has no clue what he wants from her, depends on mahito’s decision of just toying with her soul, etc. but as the myth progresses, we see psyche go out of her way to find eros after he’s escaped (after she saw his face despite him telling her not to try and look at it. gosh why.), which may or may not allude to reader progressively gaining more free will.

the furies call part one and two.

(ah, yes. the sheer angst. fuck you *cries* *jk sweetie, ilysm* *holds u gently*)

the furies, also known as the Erinyes (the way I squealed when seeing it was their ship’s name hgibfibg) are three goddesses of vengeance, each one with specific attributes. Alecto is “unceasing in anger”, who I associate with nobara; Megaera is “jealousy”, who I associate with mai, and last but not least, Tisiphone, the “avenger of murder”, who I associate with maki for… obvious reason. (destroy everything big sister. fuck you too gege, way to ruin my sunday) the fact there were paradoxically called the "kind ones" also shows the duality of mai and her crew: fearsome pirates that can and will kill you if needed, but are also capable of profound love and sacrifice. looking at you todo. I’m pretty sure they’re linked to hades, placed under his command to be precise (though I might have this bit wrong thanks to percy Jackson, so feel free to ignore the following bit ^^; ) and again. sukuna is superior in power, as nobamaki & mai are only left alive because, just like reader, they interest him.

and funny thing. among the crimes they focus on the most, there are ones related to family. very fitting with the whole zenin family drama.

i need to re-read songs from the lyre and read proteus on the shore for the rest of the analysis (afterwards i'll come back screaming at you on gojo's beauty which will end up in an embarrassing ramble about how much i love him, sorry about that in advance) but damn if I’m not having fun with this! your series is so well thought, it always makes me smile whenever I find a detail that I haven’t noticed yet. also. really. “training with gojo” how dare you write that and expect me not to simp. how dare you not make this hauntingly beautiful siren one of the love interests T^T. (yes I’d die for him in a heartbeat. no need to try and enchant my with those baby blues, I’ve already fallen for you a year ago and haven’t gotten up ever since haha)

adele’s favorite books

the song of achilles by madeline miller – an obvious contender. quite literally my favorite book of all time. i would literally lay down my life for this book. i owe this book my fucking life. i have absolutely mimicked this book when i write dramatic shit. madeline miller is EVERYTHINg. the “he is half my soul, as the poets say”??? I WOULD KNOW HIM IN DEATH, AT THE END OF THE WORLD???? LIGHT SPILLS IN A FLOOD LIKE A HUNDRED GOLDEN URNS POURING OUT OF THE SUN????? GOOD BYE. 

in search of lost time by marcel proust – this series is fucking hard as shit but i literally have undergone a cultural reset since i started it a few years ago (and no, i am still not done. rip) even if you don’t embark on the entire series (few do, this shit is tough to read because it’s incredibly dense, it takes me forever to get through a novel) i think swann’s way is a necessary must-read whenever u get the time or the energy. proust has a way with words that utterly Moves u it’s unbelievable the way he’s able to describe universal emotions + experiences with such finesse and accuracy. if u do not want to read an entire book by him, the section ‘intermittencies of the heart’ from the fourth installment is the best meditation on grief/death it fucks me up EVERY time

the wind-up bird chronicle by haruki murakami – another one of my favorite books of all time!!! i read it because patti smith said she’s obsessed with it and now i am too! it’s one of those books that just flows and everything abt it just blows ur damn mind. i still think about the ending a lot and the way random details just come and go without ever being explained it’s SO SEXY i LOVE THIS GODDAMN BOOK, reading it for the very first time was such an ETHEREAL EXPERIENCE

hades, psyche – ur so on the nose with this! definitely was aiming for the big emphasis on death + the soul ! & in reference to this chapter being ur fav (sob) i remember writing it on very dark n cold nights in january i wld listen to this mix on repeat (one of my favorites ever, i'm obsessed with the winterfell theme) and just getting really into those dark n cold vibes god i miss it i shld bring that back huh 😶

the furies call – yeah!!! girlboss!!!! this rocks!!!!! also the inclusion of the 3 individual furies GOD DAMN!!!!!!!!!!

songs from the lyre/proteus on the shore – i am so very excited to see what u come up with on these i feel like they’re more blatantly obvious than the rest (proteus on the shore is the first chapter i actually name-drop the title so...[avril lavigne voice] can it be anymore obvious) but i am super amped to see what u think!!!
